The best tips for packing your business suitcase
Business trips can be a lot of fun. You meet new people, discover great places in a different city or simply enjoy spending some time with your colleagues. But one thing that can make the whole trip unpleasant is packing your suitcase – it is something many people dread. Usually, packing is accompanied by desperation and questions like “How on earth will I get THIS in”, tearing one’s hair, and then maybe even discovering upon arrival that some of the liquids you packed have leaked in your suitcase. To prevent all this from happening and make your next business trip as relaxed and stress-free as possible, HAVENS LIVING has gathered a few tips for you.
But first: planning
As everything in life, packing your suitcase should be preceded by thorough planning. At this point, it is good to ask yourself a few questions that are relevant for packing your business suitcase. For instance, it is crucial to know the length of your stay. This allows you to decide, how many outfits, pairs of shoes and other items you might need have to fit in the suitcase. Most of us know from experience what it’s like to have too many or not enough things in your case and neither of these situations is pleasant, right?
It is also important to check the weather at your destination and to know the purpose of the journey, as it can make you feel very uncomfortable to appear in sweatpants at a business dinner with CEOs. Being too hot or too cold can also be very inconvenient. By checking the weather app, you can avoid arriving at a meeting soaked with sweat. Another tip we have for you: choose neutral colors, such as white, black and grey, as there are easy to mix and match, so you can combine them to create different outfits without having to pack too many items.
Time to pack your suitcase!
Once you’re done with the planning, it’s time to pack your business suitcase. You already know the duration of your stay, the weather at your destination and the occasions for which you need to bring clothes. Maybe you’ve even made a list to keep an overview. The most important thing now is to pack your things in the right order: heavy items – like shoes and books – should be packed first, whereas light things like shirts or blouses should be placed at the top to avoid wrinkled clothes and maximise space. So it’s basically the same as with a shopping cart. It is also helpful to lay similar garments on top of each other and roll the items up instead of folding them. This technique not only saves space, but also protects your clothes from wrinkling.
Another thing you should bear in mind are liquids. Having them spilled in your case is annoying but can be avoided – with items everyone has at home. You can wrap your shower gels or perfumes using cling film or put them into plastic food bags to avoid unpleasant surprises.
We also recommend that you only pack things you actually need. Is it really necessary to take a shampoo, a conditioner and a deep conditioner or is a 3-in-1 shampoo enough? This way, you save a lot of space and can carry your bag or suitcase around without running out of breath. It is also good to not travel with a completely full suitcase when you go by plane, so you don’t spend so much time looking for items in case of a control at the airport and also have a better overview of the content of your bag or suitcase.
As you can see, packing your business suitcase can go off without a hitch if you stick to a few rules. Still, we think that a relaxed approach and simply looking forward to your journey are the most important things when you pack your case.
