Those longing for sand beneath their feet and a fresh breeze do not have to travel far – Hamburg’s beach Elbstrand offers everything they need. If the weather is sunny and the temperatures are high, the coastal strip at the heart of this major city serves as an amazing backdrop for relaxing hours and wonderful walks along the beach in a unique atmosphere. Not only locals like to unwind in this place surrounded by nostalgic villas, densely overgrown forests and small hiking trails directly by the water. During the day many tourists enjoy the hustle and bustle of the large container ships that handle Hamburg’s freight traffic. This approximately 13-kilometer-long sandy beach stretches from Övelgönne to Rissen and is divided into several sections, such as the Blankeneser Stadtstrand, the Falkenstein Ufer or the Teufelsbrück beach section. The Elbstrand with its laid out jogging tracks, the well-frequented barbecue areas or the separate sections for dogs offers a cozy spot for everyone.

Take a breather in one of the countless restaurants and bars along the beach. Those who crave for a cool drink or a genuine Nordic fish sandwich should stop by Hamburg’s famous Strandperle. With the sand beneath your feet, you will be able to enjoy good food and a unique view. And in the evening, you can relax in one of the cozy wicker beach chairs of Strandbar 28 Grad. Have an ice-cold Belsazar Rosé Spritz and watch a wonderful romantic sunset that turns the entire Elbstrand into a breathtaking backdrop.

The sections of the beach can be reached within 30 minutes by public transport, e.g. taking the harbor ferries, on foot or by bike via the Elbe hiking trail (Elbwanderweg).
